Our story opens to the sound of a small town in the north western half of the country of Merasoft. The small town of Perse on the edge of the coast to the south of the larger town of CeeXpee, where a group of adventures have spent their lives.

The Town of Perse

Ben the Brave — the Wizard of Perse

John the Jolly — The Bard of Perse

Jessy the Jamin — The Warlock of Perse

Bill the Bold — The Mighty Druid of Perse

Mauro the Slayer— The Great half Orc Warrior of Perse

Martin the Masterful — The Merry Monk of Perse

Spoorthi the Splendid — The Elf Fighter of Perse

Peter the Powerful — The Clever Cleric of Perse

Ben the Brave had sent a letter to the town guard of EssDek a few months earlier in the year in hopes of living out his dream of becoming a guard captain. It was a fortnight ago that he learned his dream was to become true, he was to pack his things and lead the towns guard there this coming winter. Knowing his time in Perse was short his merry band of adventurers set forth to the local bar the The Prancing Pony.

Prancing Pony

When they entered the bar, they ordered a round of the finest mead the bartender Alfred had to offer.

As they sang and drank in the The Prancing Pony, a sudden crash and shattering of glass caught them all by surprise. Ben the Brave was sitting in the booth on the far side of the bar. A knife nearly missing his head, attached to the end of the knife was a small note:

The Note found on the Knife

Bartender Alfred

Alfred has been the bartender in the Prancing Pony for the last 15 years, he’s aware of lots of happenings around the town and tends to hear what poor drunken souls happen to tell him. He’s heard there was a lot of shady business in EssDek, so it’s not surprising there would be issues with a new captain of the town guard being hired. He’s not sure what the knife could mean, but obviously they didn’t kill Ben, so this was just a warning. Maybe the Mayor or Towns Guard here would know more?

Bar Patrons

A couple of old farmers at the bar, don’t really wanna look at you.

The Guard House

The guard house is located just outside the mayors castle, and a number of town guard live and work there during the weeks. there’s 4 rooms in the guardhouse, a main entryway with a desk, the back bunkroom with an attached a shower & bathroom, and a storage room.

The Guards

Tend to be pretty busy, don’t really want to talk they finished their shift and are playing cards or going to the Prancing Pony.

Guard at Desk

Towns Guardsman Matt, he’s in charge of the desk at the guard house tonight. He’s shocked to hear about the knife incident, and says he’ll write up a report and let his boss know about it. If anything turns up he’ll be happy to let you know.

Secret

Hidden in the storage room is a small note:

package main

import (

“fmt”

)

func main() {

fmt.Println(“RmluZCBhIHdheSB0byBzY2FyZSBCZW4gb2ZmIGZyb20gZ29pbmcgdG8gRXNzRGVrLCBoZSdzIG91dCBvZiBoaXMgbGVhZ3VlIGFuZCBKIGRvZXNuJ3Qgd2FudCBhbnlvbmUgZWxzZSBpbnZlc3RpZ2F0aW5nIGhpbS4K”)

}

Give the team this file and ask them to figure out what it could be?

Outside the Guard House

A stranger was watching the group as they leave the guard house, they can see him just around the side of the castle wall and he runs of towards “The Castle” just as they try to catch up to him.

The Mayors Castle

A large Castle on the edge of the water in the town of Perse protected by a group of towns guard. The major of Perse manages the comings and goings of the town from this large protected estate. As you walk up to the main door you see the cost of this magnificent castle must have been immense, from a distance it looks like just simple stone and wood. As you’ve gotten closer you realize there are beautiful stain glass windows, custom created wood work for the doors and once you enter the main door you see the beautiful artwork inside

The Mayor

He is shocked to hear that an attempt was made on one of his citizens lives! It won’t stand, he tells you!

He orders the nearest guard to fill out a report with the guard house and inform him of any developments with the case. He recommends that Ben stay in the town for the time being, as it seems he’d be in more danger in EssDek.

As you speak with him a man comes around the hall from behind the Mayor, looking related to the Mayor maybe a bit older. He introduces him as James his brother, who happens to be a mayor in a town nearby. He was just here to review his plan for a new trade deal between his town and Perse.

James

He doesn’t really tell you much, just that he’s a mayor nearby and is tired after traveling here. When you question too much he tell everyone he need to get some rest and hands his brother a letter.

Secret:

The letter the mayor got from his brother contains a set of random numbers (possibly a secret message)

01001101 01100101 01100101 01110100 00100000 01101101 01100101 00100000 01100001 01110100 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01100100 01101111 01100011 01101011 01110011 00100000 01110100 01101111 01101110 01101001 01100111 01101000 01110100

Leaving the mayors house

As you leave the mayors house a man is seen watching you and runs off towards “The Guardhouse” before you can stop him.

The Docks

As you walk into the docks area of town, you see a lone warehouse with a door slightly ajar.

Inside the warehouse you see the Mayor, his Brother, and the captain of the towns guard for Perse all speaking near a lantern. The Brother and Mayor seem aggressive towards the captain of the towns guard, and there seems to be some tension between them. You may hear better by getting closer.

As you walk inside the the door slams shut behind you. Two guards were at the door and came in behind you in and are blocking your way out. They yell towards the trio in near the lantern. All three men turn and see you.

The mayor says:

Oh my, it seems our group of little adventures are about to find out what happens when they look into things they shouldn’t.

As the mayor says this four more guards with two dogs walk out.

You are about to fight
